Are you an avid tractor puller looking for an edge on the competition? The only resource you may have are other pullers, the very people you are pulling against, who in my experience, have not been very willing to share all of the secrets of a great hook. Sure, you could go into an internet chat room and ask questions, but it would take months, if not years to learn everything you need to know right now. Even if you learn the tips, tricks, and secrets of pulling, you would have to spend countless hours to verify they actually work.

Hydraulic systems use liquid under pressure to perform work. Designing and building a hydraulic system requires some mechanical knowledge and specialized components, but the results can allow a machine to do jobs it would be difficult to do otherwise. Steps 1 Understand how a hydraulic system works. There are basically four elements to the system, as well as possibly many smaller associated components for specialized purposes. Here are the basic four and a brief description of each.

This is a tank or other container that holds the fluid to supply the rest of the system. These are the pipes or hoses which transfer the fluid from one element of the system to another. This device pushes hydraulic fluid through the circuit and provides the energy for the system to do its job. Hydraulic motor or cylinder. This is the component that causes something to move, driven by the power of the hydraulic pump. Subcomponents that manipulate or regulate the fluid as it does its job include various valves which allow excess fluid to bypass the hydraulic motor or cylinder, control valves or valve spools, regulators, accumulators, pressure switches, and pressure gauges.

John Deere, Farmall and Ford The story of the deal between Henry Ford and Harry Ferguson, which was sealed with only a handshake, has been told so many times by so many people that no one is exactly sure how it happened. Basically, Harry Ferguson invented the three-point hitch and Ford agreed to put it on his new Ford 9N tractor.

Called the “Ferguson System”, this three-point hitch was put together using a combination of linkage three different linkage points, two on bottom and one on top and hydraulics. It used to be that hooking up an implement to a tractor was a major affair. Farmers had hoists and helpers and all kinds of inovative ways to get that heavy thing hooked up. With the Ferguson System they need only back up to the implement, hook it up, raise it with the hydraulics and off they went.

It was developed as a versatile all-purpose tractor for the small farm and was exceedingly popular. It went through subtle changes almost every year of production. For example, in the grille had nearly horizontal bars and the steering box, grille, battery box, hood, instrument panel and tranny cover were made of cast-aluminum. It had snap-on radiator and fuel caps.

USING YOUR TRACTOR

Unless there is a son or daughter who is interested in your tractor, there comes a time when you need to send it on to the next owner. Like living in a historic old house, you know that building will outlive you. What are you going to wish for that old house and its new owner? What are your desires for your old tractor? The other story picks up the first left off: The old tractor came into our lives in the early s.

Peterson Manufacturing has some nice lighting using 55W H3 halogens. Given the John Deere has a 20 amp alternator, can it handle this additional load or are we looking for trouble? Is there a higher output alternator that works well with the ? Should I connect in parallel with the existing headlight circuit or use a separate relay and circuit?

The lighting fuse installed is 15 amps. I have run this same load before with a 14 amp charging system and I had to run the engine wide open to just barely keep up. I think you will be doing fine with a 20 amp output. It is not necessary to run a relay, just get some quality switches. I have purchased a John Deere with the hopes of purchasing a snow plow for it. I saw an auction where the seller is offering a plow for a John Deere and John Deere model.

Mar 22,  · I just purchased a D 17 series III tractor with after market 3PT. I also purchased a 7 foot SW Sidewinder brush hog. My problem is that they won’t hook up.

How to hook up a tiller Thanks for the advice. The blue bracket seems like it should go right in between the top link attachment area on the tractor, but it doesn’t quite fit. I think I could make it fit by drilling another hole in it, but I was a little afraid to do that thinking I must just be doing it wrong. Basically, the holes don’t line up in the block with my 3 point upper attachment. Would I still use my adjustable top link with this bracket?

As far as the rotation of the tines. I have to say, I am not sure on that one. It seems like they might have been turning back to front when I hooked it up before. I will have to check that out tomorrow. It seems that I had a walk behind garden tiller at one time that the tines turned backward like that, and it worked great because the tines turned opposite the powered wheels creating balance within the tiller. I do think my PTO turns counter clock wise, but I am not positive on that either.

Both the tractor and tiller are grey market so I would think they would be designed with the same rotation. I also told my father in law that I would fix a leak from the gear box while I had it, so I broke into that today. About 5 million bolts holding it on and a crappy paper gasket in between.

3 Point Hitch Attachments

Northern Utah Posted May 18, – These were made both in a proprietary 2 point configuration, and a 3 point configuration. Mine is a 3 point, but a previous owner still had to extend the bracket for the lift arm pins about 4″. The PTO shaft for it is too long for my ‘Bota The old shaft is a splined slip yoke like an automotive drive shaft, not a 3-sided telescoping shaft like most tractor PTO Shafts.

And I also found the comparison of the PTO chippers helpful. Several reasons for me to purchase the BX62, one being that it was rated to handle the tractor HP, I have it hooked up to my small tractor rated at 85 pto HP. Second was the build quality and all the positive reviews from users. I needed something that was close to being commercial use and reasonable cost.

We have around 60 to 80 acres on this place needing to be cleared, lot of work but keeps me out of trouble. With owning a chipper I’m not out there killing myself trying to get my moneys worth from the rental and return it on time. I’ll start with delivery of the chipper, delivered on a pallet wrapped in plastic, the feed and delivery chutes were secured with brackets made out of 10 gauge steel. Set up took two of us about an hour, greased the rotor bearings with about 5 or 6 squirts just to feel comfortable, and greased the PTO u-joints and checked the blade clearances as well.

I have used the chipper for around 15 hours and it is chipping great with NO problems. I’m chipping probably the second hardest wood known to man, seasoned mesquite!

These are the basic specifications. The full standards include additional specifications on dimensions and geometry. Seems like a great idea! Just back up to any implement, click, click, and drive away! What I discovered is that many of my implements would not attach to the Quick Hitch. Removing the Quick Hitch to use those implements just added more work and busted knuckles.

The only way any of the Quick Hitch devices will work as advertised, is if all your implements will easily attach to it. How far apart are the lower link pins? Are all the top link connections the same height from the lower links?

The loop and stand simply slip over the wagon tongue and are held in place by any conventional hitch pin. A lift rod mounts at a forward angle on top of the stand. The second part of the hitch bolts onto the tractor’s drawbar.
